Goodness and Mercy Martins, a couple of conjoined twins, have been isolated after a group of Nigerian medicinal specialists went through 13 hours performing complex medical procedure on them in #Abuja.
The two infants were conveyed at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Keffi, on August 13, 2018, conjoined face-to-face at the chest and stomach area, from where they were alluded to the National Hospital, Abuja the next day, August 14, 2018.
They required about N20m for complex medical procedures that would see them isolated at the heart and the liver which were fused together from the womb.
Luckily for their situation, the administration of the National Hospital Abuja chose to finance their consideration and the whole procedures prompting the major surgery for their partition as its corporate social duty.
The Surgery was effectively done on November twelfth, 2019, by a joined group of therapeutic faculty drove by Surgeon, Prof. Emmanuel Ameh.
A group of 78 indigenous medicinal experts, involving specialists, attendants, anesthetists, pediatricians, radiologists, hematologists, compound pathologists, and drug specialists directed the medical procedure.
Ameh said pre-surgery examination conducted revealed that the babies shared vital organs including, liver, chest wall, diaphragm, and pericardium.
He said experts, however, successfully shared the liver for the two babies using modern medical equipment.
