A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Delta state, SP Asanayin Ibok, supposedly beat up and stripped two sisters, Mercy, 28 and 19-year-old Lucy Okoro, bare over a landowner/tenancy dispute in Warri on Friday.
SP Ibok who heads the Ekpan Police Division in Uvwie committee zone of the state was said to have arrested the duo and their widowed mother, Mrs. Lucy Okoro, afterwards.
Talking with newsmen on Monday, the 28-year-old asserted that one of their tenants, Andrew Obas, had welcomed the police to their home.
She said he (Obas) was owing her family three months lease and they had given him until the fourth month after which his inability to pay, constrained them to give him quit notice.
“We allowed him four months which slipped by this January, yet he would not pay. We requested that he pack out, rather, he brought equipped Policemen.
“They shot sporadically, went to our home and conveyed my sister, hauling her on the floor and kicking her. I held the Policeman requesting that he let my sister go. Be that as it may, the Policeman (DPO) stripped me naked. He pulled the wrapper from my neck, dragged me on the floor and kicked my buttocks.
“They packaged my sister and I into their watch van and took us to the Police Station. I never realized it was the DPO from the start. He inquired as to whether we were the individuals causing ‘wahala’? So I requested that my mom go along with us in the cell. That was the point at which he slapped me until I fell on the ground and fainted
“The Policewoman at the counter splashed teargas at me. I thought I was at that point daze. Around evening time, he (DPO) and a few men came and came down maltreatment on me,” Mercy recounted in Pidgin.
She further engaged the Nigerian government, human rights association, just as the global network to take up the issue and guarantee “equity” is served.
Adding her voice to her little girl’s call for equity, the widow approached government and good natured people to go to their guide and uncover the harsh demonstration of the Police.
