For the past 72hrs, Nigerians on social media, on the streets, day and night weeping bitterly, demanding for immediate disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) over rights violations and abuse of citizens.
The president whom we are calling on never responded. He pretended as if he’s not with us in this country. As if he doesn’t have a TV, radio or access to the internet to see what’s going on. Just few hours ago, he decided to issue a lame statement as usual.
He said,
“I met again with the IGP tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt. I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct and ensure that the police are fully accountable to the people”.
With due respect Mr President, we do not want a reform. The previous reforms never yield any positive results. We want a total disbandment of SARS!
What Is SARS & It Motive?
Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is a dreaded controversial unit of the Nigeria Police Force. SARS is one of the 14 units in the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department which was established to detain, investigate and prosecute people involved in crimes like armed robbery, kidnapping and other forms of crimes.
What Are SARS Known For Currently?
SARS operatives are known for extortion, torture, framing up suspects, kidnapping, arm robbery and even blackmailing innocent citizens.
When Did This Start?
This started in 2012 till this very moment.
What Has The Nigerian Government Done About It?
The Nigerian government has done absolutely nothing. Maybe they’re benefiting from the extortions, kidnapping and arm robbery operation by the men of SARS. Who knows!🤷
To EndSars or ReformSars Which Is The Best Option?
To end the blood sucking demons called SARS of course! To take the beasts off our streets. They ain’t useful to the society anymore. Besides the main reason SARS was formed, has been achieved. So they should be disarm and dismiss!
When Was SARS Created & Why?
SARS was formed in 1992 by former police commissioner Simeon Danladi Midenda when Col. Rindam, a Nigerian Army Colonel was killed by police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos. When the information reached the army barrack, soldiers were dispatched into the streets of Lagos in search of any police officer.
Out of fear, the Nigerian police withdrew from checkpoints, security areas and other points of interest for criminals. Some police officers were said to have resigned while others fled for their lives.
Due to the absence of police for over two weeks crime rate increased and SARS was formed with only 15 officers (with questionable characters) operating in shadows without the knowledge of the army.
Who Are The 15 Officers That Formed SARS?
I don’t know them, but of course some Ex-convicts, Cultists and Criminals that could withstand the soldiers at that time. Remember, the Nigerian police withdrew from checkpoints, security areas and other points of interest for criminals out of fear. So tell me, who else could if not Cultists and Criminals.🤷
And due to the existence of already established three anti-robbery squad which was operational at that time, Midenda needed to distinguish his squad from the already existing teams. Midenda named his team Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
After months of dialogue the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force came to an understanding and official police duties began again in Lagos. The SARS unit was officially commissioned in Lagos following a ceasefire by the army after settlement.
You Previously Said Nigerians Should Not Take IGP or President Buhari Speech Over The SARS Saga Serious – Why?
Good question. You see for the past 4 years, the President Buhari-led government has been lying and deceiving the masses with endless disbandment of the legal criminals in police uniform called SARS.
In 2017 the sitting IGP Idris Ibrahim banned SARS from conducting stop and search operation following the cries of the masses on Police harassment and brutalities. Yet nothing changed.
In 2018 the Sars killing, harassment on innocent citizens continue and same IGP Idris restates ban on SARS operatives from conducting stop and search raids.
I don’t know what transpired, IGP Idris got sacked and another incompetent officer Mohammed Adamu was appointed as IGP.
In 2019 the SARS Police Officers upgraded arm robbers, kidnappers, assassins, blackmailers and anything evil you can ever think of. Oppressed and depressed Nigerians stormed the street again demanding for disbandment of F-Sars. After some DAYS the new IGP Adamu orders immediate disbandment of F-Sars.
Despite the disbandment and reforms, nothing changed. They are still killing, harassing, stealing, extorting, raping, dehumanizing and blackmailing well doing youth.
In 2020 the harassment and brutality became worse under President Buhari-led government. Reason why I advise fellow Nigerians not to take him or the IGP serious this time. Same old stories every year.
Right now anyone who dresses well, own a car, smell good, uses an iPhone, laptop or any modern gadgets, boom you’re a suspect. You’re a Yahoo boy and thief. The untrained illiterate SARS operatives will torture and empty the person’s bank account.
They’ll forcefully transfer money from your bank account to theirs with gun pointed on your head. But lately they no longer accept bank transfer. Their method of robbery presently is by dragging the suspect to a nearby ATM or
POS and withdraw the least kobo in your account at gun point. If you refused to or doesn’t have any cash to give, you’re dead! They will shoot you to death and run away.
Now tell me if that’s not same thing arm robbers does. There’s no difference. Below is a photo of F-SARS Officers.
What we want right now is #EndSars not #ReformSars. The president should order the IGP to take those beasts off our street! We’re better off without them. Better still, they should be allocated to Sambisa forest to fight Boko-Haram.
