9 Nigerian Artistes Who Were Outstanding In Their Debut Nollywood Role

Some Nigerian artistes who are non-actors have been tasked in the recent past to star in blockbuster movies, but surprisingly, they were outstanding even though it was their debut movie. This article brings to you some popular artistes who were remarkable in their first Nollywood movie.

1. Vector

Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Vector, was remarkable in his 2018 debut movie June. The movie follows the life of a successful wedding planner who is in search of love. Vector in the same year went on to starred in the movie Lara And The Beat.

2. Seyi Shay

Seyi Shay debuted in the 2018 movie, Lara And The Beat, playing the lead role of Lara. In the movie Lara is a self-centered girl who lives a celebrity lifestyle off her father’s wealth. It all changed when she and her sister, Dara, discovered they were at the center of a financial crisis and must use their respective talent to bounce back. Seyi Shay’s acting role was superb and unexpected, given that it was her first ever movie.

3. Sexy Steel

Singer, Abbey Chile Abuede, professionally known as Sexy Steel, made his outstanding Nollywood debut in the Elvis Chuks directed movie, titled Playing Safe. The movies also starred Ini Edo, Tonto Dikeh, Ik Ogbonna and Okague Chris.

4. Simi

Afrobeat singer Simi Ogunleye dived into the Nollywood movie scene in 2019 in the movie, Mokalik, a movie that follows the story of a young boy undecided about his future career, his parents decides to send him to a mechanic workshop far away from home to learn the craft of repairing cars. While in the mechanical workshop he met a beautiful girl named Simi who helps her mother sell food near the workshop. He immediately admires Simi and tries to make her his friend. Simi Ogunleye excellent played the role of Simi in the movie.

5. Daddy Showkey

Daddy Showkey is one of the most respected musicians in Nigeria, notable for his controversial songs and his dance movies. It came as a surprise to many when Daddy Showkey ventured into movies, making his debut in the 2019 movie, Seven, playing the vital role of a notorious Ajegunle tout, known as Croaker.

6. IllBliss

Nigeria rapper, IllBliss was also an outstanding debutant who starred in the movie King of Boys, playing the role of Odogwu.

7. Reminisce

Reminisce also played his character perfectly in his debut role in the 2019 movie King Of Boys were he played the role of Makanaki.

8. Banky W

Banky W made his maiden appearance in the blockbuster movie, A Wedding Party starring alongside his wife, Adesua Etomi. They played the role of Dozie Onwuka and Dunni Coker, an in-love couple that have a lavish wedding plans, but their families dispute and uninvited guests turn it into a nightmare. Banky W played his character perfectly, given no sign he was a newbie in the movie scene.

9. Chidinma

Nigerian Gospel singer and songwriter Chidinma tried a shot at Nollywood and did awesomely well. She debuted in the Kunle Afolayan movie, The Bridge, playing the role of Stella, an Igbo girl who secretly marries a Yoruba prince despite warnings from her parents. The couple’s happy ending is threatened by their respective families disputes.
