Cancer is one of the deadly disease in the world. We have some of our favorite Nigerian celebrities who were diagnosed of cancer but later survived it.

In case you don’t know, Cancer is a type of disease in which cells in the body grow uncontrollably and even spread to other parts of the body and the abnormal cells are often called Cancer cells, malignant cells or tumor cells.

Recently, Nollywood actress Doris China was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 but passed away in 2021 after long battle with breast cancer. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, amen.

Well, we have some of the biggest celebrities who beat cancer and some of them shared their surviving story on their Instagram page.

1. Wole Soyinka

In 2014, Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka revealed how he survived prostrate cancer. According to him, he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in December 2013, but was cured 10 months after.

Cancer is no joke at all. “Family, friends and colleagues begin to look at you as if you are a ghost just because you have cancer.

“No, cancer is not a death sentence, it is curable I have undergone treatment and I am able to tell you that, even I have a medal to show for it,” Wole Soyinka said.

2. Karen Igho

Popular Nigerian media personality and actress, Karen Igho had revealed on her Twitter page that she defeated cancer.

The 2011 Big Brother Africa winner said some lumps were found in her breasts before entering the Big Brother Africa house.

3. Banky W

In 2017, Popular Nigerian singer, Bankole Wellington widely known as Banky W revealed he had successfully undergone a third surgery for skin cancer, having battled with the disease for over 10 years.

“For those who’ve been wondering why I have been away for so long. I had my 3rd surgery on a rare strain of skin cancer tumors in my shoulder last month.

“The first 2 times were over 10 years age, then it recently resurfaced. But this isn’t a sad story as much as it is a reminder and a testimony,” Banky W said.

4. Julius Agwu

Nigerian standup comedian, actor and MC, Julius Agwu who is the CEO of Reellaif Limited, a music and movie production company, was diagnosed with Brain cancer after three tumors were discovered in his brain.

Well, he is one of the Nigerian celebrities who defeated one of the deadliest disease with one of the highest mortality rate.

5. Vast of Bracket

Vast whose real name is Nwachukwu Ozioko is one of the Nigerian Afropop and R&B music duo, has several hits in the music industry which include Yori Yori, Ada Owerri and Girl featuring Wizkid.

In 2013, the singer was diagnosed with a lymphoma and after several expensive sessions of chemotherapy, he revealed that he was free of the disease.
