Ayo Makun, aka AY, was born into a middle class family in Warri, Delta State on August 19, 1971. He is the oldest male child in the family of seven. Meanwhile, the Makun family of AY are orig inally from Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State. AY attended Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), from where he bagged BA (Bachelor of Arts) in Theater Arts in 2003.
He started his career as a comedian while he was still an undergraduate in DELSU. His skills made him popular through out the school, and earned him many awards organized within the school campus.
AY won the award for most fashionable student on campus both in 1999 and 2000, best show-biz promoter in 2001, most celebrated student on campus also in 2001, and the Jaycee Club socio-personality award in his final year, 2003. He spent a total of nine (9) years in the course of his studies in DELSU.
Upon his graduation from the University, AY started working as personal assistant and event manager for popular comedian, Atunyota Akpobome popularly known as Ali Baba. He started gaining fame outside University while working with Ali Baba who was known as one of the A-list comedian in the Nigerian comedy industry then.
From there, AY started writing his weekly publication, “A.Y wire” as a guest columnist on The Sun newspaper and Gbenga Adeyinka’s popular comedy magazine, Laffmattazz.
AY rose through the ranks in the Nigerian comedy industry to become one of the most sought-after stand-up comedian in the country. His AY Live Show is one of the major entertainment events holding every year across the country.
AY married the love of his life, Mabel Makun, in 2008 and together have a beautiful daughter.
