The bookkeeper of the Church of Brethren in Nigeria, Ibrahim Aku has been condemned to 18 years in jail for extortion. Aku cheated the church of N15.5 million (cash gotten from contributions, donations and tithes) somewhere in the range of 2016 and 2018.
The convict who conceded to charges of fraud and getting cash by affectation was condemned to 18 years in jail without an alternative of fine.
The previous Church bookkeeper who was busted subsequent to displaying forged tellers as proof of installment of cash depended in his consideration was requested to repay the cash as compensation to the church by a Federal High Court judge who also directed the anti-graft agency to sell the proceeds of the crime recovered during its investigation and remit the money to the church.
