A jobless man, Faniyi Ajibola, 27, who supposedly took two jugs of Holy Communion wine, soaps and sachet of salt worth N46,000 from a Church in Mushin, Lagos, on Friday showed up in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Ajibola, who lives in Mushin, Lagos, is accused of burglary and break of harmony, however he argued not guilty.
The indictment counsel, Edet Akadu, told the court that Mr Ajibola submitted the offense on September 24, 2019.
“The respondent unlawfully entered a Catholic church at Mushin in Lagos and took two containers of holy communion, four sachet of soap and a sachet of salt valued N46,000,’’ Akadu said.
He told the court that Mr Ajibola was gotten by individuals from the congregation while drinking the Holy Communion wine at the special raised area and gave him over to the police.
Mr Akadu said the offense contradicted the arrangements of segments 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that whenever indicted under segment 287, he is obligated to three years in jail whenever sentenced while Section 168 stipulates a half year prison term for beach of the peace.
Boss Magistrate K.O. Ogundare conceded the respondent to bail in the entirety of N20, 000 with two sureties in like whole.
Mr Ogundare deferred the case until Feb. 5, for additional consultation. (NAN)
